If your parent or loved one has recently had a surgery, or has one scheduled in the near future, it is likely that they will need to recover in a rehabilitation center. But what do will these rehab centers offer? What should you look for when searching out the right place for your loved one?

Though it can be overwhelming, be sure to allow yourself enough time to research and visit any rehabilitation centers that you are considering. Ask for referrals from a doctor, and from friends and family who have dealt with similar experiences and may have helpful recommendations. Be sure you take a tour of each facility before making any decisions. Talk to the staff, check out the rehab equipment, and be sure that the center has specialists who will fit your loved one’s needs. Additionally, try and look for a place that isn’t too far away, it’ll be easier for both you and them if you and other family members are able to visit during their stay.

Here at Collington, our rehab center offers a range of rehabilitation and therapy services. We also offer a specialized physical rehab program for our homeward bound patients.

Our range of services include:

  • Checking vital signs daily
  • Medication monitoring
  • Nutrition management
  • Lifestyle modification
  • Any necessary testing
  • Psychology services for talk therapy and gradual drug reduction
  • Onsite yearly dental screen
  • Social services/discharge planning

Additionally, we are proud to offer Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy programs. Those who are placed in our physical therapy program spend time working to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities after suffering from injuries or disease. Our occupational therapists use treatments to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of their patients. The therapists help clients not only to improve their basic motor functions and reasoning abilities, but also to compensate for permanent loss of function. Finally, as part of our speech therapy program, our speech-language pathologists work with people who cannot produce speech sounds or cannot produce them clearly. They also work with people who have swallowing difficulties, adjusting diet consistency that is appropriate at each stage of recovery.

Each patient has their own unique needs, and every rehabilitation center is different. Spend time doing research, visiting the campuses, talking to doctors and faculty and even speak to current residents if possible. Finding the right place to fill their needs is important, and you’ll have peace of mind knowing your parent or loved one is recovering in the best care possible.
