Staying healthy as you get older is incredibly important, and at Collington, we always want our senior living community to be as healthy as they can be! There are several ways someone can improve their lifestyles, and some strategies are as simple as being more physically active, getting enough rest, and increasing your fiber consumption.

As we get older, our bodies weaken, but if we stay active, the muscles stay strong. Falling is less common when your muscles are stronger, and injury is less likely when you stay active. Although being active may cause some soreness at first, it goes away after you exercise more frequently.

Getting a full night of sleep (8 hours) is just as important as staying active. Sleeping for a full 8 hours sets the tone for the rest of the day. When you’re well-rested, you are ready to make the most of your time.

Eating more fiber-filled foods can improve your way of life. More fiber in your diet can reduce the risk of heart disease and colon cancer. How can you add more fiber into your diet? Well, fruits such as apples and pears are great ways to add fiber into your diet, along with vegetables such as broccoli and carrots.

Here at Collington, A Kendal Affiliate, we always encourage our residents to be active and healthy!
