New Years Resolutions You'll Actually Keep

The start of a new year marks the start of a clean slate. This is the time many people make resolutions on how they can improve themselves, or their lives over the next year.

As we get older it can be hard to make a resolution and stick to it by the time the next year rolls around, but it’s still worth trying! Here are some tips on realistic resolutions you can make that you’ll stick to all year long.

Start small. Make your resolution a goal that is achievable. Many people tend to make resolutions about losing weight but generally have trouble sticking to it when it’s too broad. Break down your resolution month by month. Set yourself smaller goals to achieve that way as you hit each one, you’ll be more motivated to keep going.

Make new friends. Living at Collington, this resolution is a fantastic one to set for yourself! Every time you go to the dining room, make it a goal to sit with someone you don’t know, or take a fitness class and talk to a fellow resident you’ve never met. This resolution won’t only benefit you, but also the other residents as well!

Make your home safer. Things like area rugs, or cords can easily become a tripping hazard. Dedicate one day every week to going around your home and remove any items that could easily lead to a fall. You will start the new year off with peace of mind knowing you’ll be protected from any avoidable injuries.

No matter what resolution you make, make sure it’s a goal that is important to you. Having something you really want to achieve will help you stay on track throughout the year. Work on changing one small behavior at a time and don’t beat yourself up if you stray from your resolution. If you noticed you let your resolution slip, get back on track and you’ll be achieving your goals in no time.
