To Do This Fall: Free Up Time for What Matters Most

Americans love fall more than any other season. And why not? There are myriad reasons to relish the time of year that brings us cool, crisp air, brilliant hues, endless blue skies and pumpkin spice just about everything.

Homeowner Hassle

But for homeowners, autumn is also when the to-do list of things to prepare for the coming winter is long and laborious. When all those gorgeous leaves start blanketing the lawn and you’re the one who has to rake and bag them, only to do it over and again until the last leaf falls, the beauty of the season begins to look like one big chore.

And raking is just a fraction of what needs to be done ahead of the winter chill. Let’s not forget cleaning the gutters, winterizing outdoor faucets and hoses, bringing in patio furniture, sealing cracks inside and out, inspecting the roof, servicing the furnace, insulating pipes, cleaning air ducts, vents, chimneys, protecting flower beds and trees, stocking winter supplies and so much more…whew! Indeed, fall cleanup is a major homeowner hassle.

Safety Hazards

As we age, annual tasks don’t just feel more tiring – they can become real safety risks. Hauling ladders, climbing roofs, lifting heavy objects, shoveling snow…all that work can leave older homeowners vulnerable to not only accidents and injury, but other health hazards like stress on the heart, respiratory complications, muscle and joint strain and harmful contact with fumes, chemicals, gas leaks, etc.

A Different Kind of Fall Cleanup

What if the changing season didn’t mean an exhausting, potentially dangerous litany of duties? What if it was a new beginning, a chance to “clean up” your priorities and do the things you want to do instead of the things you have to do?

Senior living communities are often mistakenly associated with losing one’s independence, yet just the opposite is true. It’s wonderfully freeing to leave strenuous home and yard maintenance behind and take advantage of all the time left to explore new interests, make new friends, dine on delicious, chef-inspired meals, dig into meaningful pursuits with engaging, like-minded neighbors. The possibilities are truly endless!

Your Space, Your Style

Saying goodbye to the responsibilities of homeownership does not mean parting with the delights of making a home uniquely yours. In addition to the freedom of time, residents in quality retirement communities have the liberty to style their apartments, cottages and villas their way, reaping all the pleasures of home design without the aggravations of traditional homeownership.

At Collington, our Design Center is where visions for a new home begin, ensuring each and every residence is a reflection of its owners’ unique needs, preferences and tastes. From the first step to the finishing touches, we work with couples and individuals to ensure that their customized property feels like home the moment they walk through the door.

Smooth Moves

Transitioning from a longtime home to the independence and community of senior living can be both exciting and deeply rewarding. Yet, the arduous and emotional process of moving itself often feels overwhelming. That’s where a professional move manager can make all the difference. More than just a moving service, a move manager offers compassionate, comprehensive support, from organizing and downsizing to packing and unpacking, selling or responsibly disposing of items that won’t be making the move, and so much more.

Less List, More Life

This fall, as you’re readying for the winter ahead, remember that less “to-do” means more to love.
