Continuing Care Counts in Senior Living

You may have heard the term “continuing care” when it comes to senior living but may not fully understand what it means and if it’s the right choice for you or your loved one. A Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC, is a single campus that features the same care you would find in independent living, assisted living and nursing home communities all in one place. The goal of these communities is to provide the full spectrum of care a senior would potentially need throughout their life without having to relocate. As a senior’s needs potentially change, they will have the peace of mind knowing they can get the care they need in an environment they are already familiar with.

Depending on when they decide to move to the community, the resident may opt to initially live in a cottage or apartment in the independent living section of campus. Should the individual begin to need more care, they will be able to move a short distance across the campus to assisted living, or memory care. In addition, if a resident requires any type of rehabilitation services, they can obtain that right on campus as well.

There are countless benefits to choosing a CCRC but perhaps the most important is the peace of mind it provides for the resident and their family. Life is full of unexpected changes, and the best thing we can do for ourselves is to be prepared. That’s exactly what continuing care communities provide, they offer opportunities to prepare for an unknown future, and to have a plan in place for whatever may happen. For family members who don’t live nearby, these communities provide the peace of mind that their loved one is in the best care, and will be taken care of during an emergency, after a fall, or throughout an illness.

For the resident, choosing a CCRC as their home allows them to live worry free, no longer having to stress about the future or what they will do in an emergency situation. It provides them a community of support, care, and comfort, allowing them to be surrounded by likeminded people, and staff who will be there every step of the way.

If you or your loved one are thinking about making the move to senior living, consider a CCRC. The level of care you receive can make all the difference in your quality of life both physically and mentally. Continuing care counts in senior living.
